Our Cup Overflows

Psalm 23:5-6

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.

Since the Lord is our shepherd, our cup overflows with blessings. Goodness and mercy follow us every day of our lives.

The Psalmist had no idea what blessings would come to us through the overflowing cup of blessings that we share whenever we drink from the chalice of salvation. He couldn’t even imagine what it would be like, not only to dwell in the house of the Lord, but to become the very dwelling place of the Lord. The cup that overflows for us makes us vessels of Christ’s Blood, vessels of divinity itself. The cup that overflows for us not only enables us to dwell in the house of the Lord, but it enables the Lord to dwell is us, and we are indeed richly blessed.
